It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Kyrene de la Sierra Community. At Sierra, our mission each day is to inspire student confidence, empower each other, respect diversity, reach for knowledge, and achieve academic excellence.
A few quick facts about myself: I am an Arizona native and grew up in the East Valley. I attended Kyrene Middle School for one year, which makes me a "Kyrene Kid". I attended Northern Arizona University where I received both my undergraduate and master’s degree in Education.
I am celebrating my 27thyear in the Kyrene School District and feel very fortunate to have worked in this amazing district for my entire career. I began my teaching career at C.I. Waggoner where I taught fourth grade for two years. I then moved to Kyrene de los Cerritos where I taught fifth grade for six years. After eight years in the classroom, I transitioned into administration and worked as a Sixth grade Student Advisor at Kyrene Middle School, Assistant Principal at both Kyrene de las Lomas and Kyrene de las Cerritos before returning to Kyrene de las Lomas, where I was a principal for 10 years.
My wife is also an employee of the Kyrene School District. She is currently the Director of Talent Management, but prior to that she was a teacher, Literacy Coach, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Director of School Effectiveness.
When I am not at school I enjoy playing golf, CrossFit, traveling, and reading.
Sierra is truly an amazing place for students, staff and the community. We are proud to have a school letter grade of an A, which is the state’s highest grade. The Tempe Diablos awarded one of our teachers their Teacher of the Year award during the 2017-2018 school year. Finally, during the 2019-2020 school year, we were recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2019. We were one of 362 schools to receive this honor in 2019. At Sierra, we continually strive for excellence in academics, student growth, children’s character, and citizenship. We are excited and honored to partner with you on your child’s educational journey and know that 2022-2023 is going to be an amazing school year.
